Fitbit unveils its next smartwatch
RTE – Apple is working on a new smartwatch.
The company announced today that Fitbit is working with Apple to develop a smartwatch with a smartband that is compatible with the iPhone 5s and iPhone 6.
Fitbit, which has a market capitalisation of more than $1.2 billion, also confirmed that it is working to develop its own smartphone accessory.
Apple will be supplying Fitbit with a device that is waterproof, flexible and can be worn on its face.
Apple has a large partnership with Fitbit on accessories, with the company using the company’s devices in the Apple Watch and the iPhone 6 and the upcoming iPhone SE.
FitBit said it was working with the world’s largest manufacturer of wearable electronics.
“We’re excited to continue working with our partners on this new device,” said Fitbit CEO Stephen Hester.
The iPhone 5 is the company “most valuable smartphone” among consumers, according to a recent report by research firm IDC.
“The iPhone 5 and iPhone 5c will help drive growth for the company, which now has more than 4 million users worldwide,” the company said in a statement.
